BAROQUE DANCE – LIVE! has been cancelled in response to the challenges presented during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more about what the BSO doing here.
The relationship between music and dance in the Courts of Europe was symbiotic – the steps and gestures of a dance was reflected in the music, and the music influenced the steps and gestures of a dance. The titles of popular dances – Gavotte, Sarabande, Bourée…, were also the titles of pieces of music written by most Baroque composers like J.S. Bach. Joining us to explain and demonstrate some representative dances, with music performed by the BSO strings, is Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg, Co-Artistic Director of Toronto’s Opera Atelier and Specialist in Baroque Dance, and two members of Opera Atelier.
