Strings – Picked, Plucked, and Bowed

Join us April 9, 2016 from 7:30pm-10:00pm for a variety concert of music for string orchestra and harpsichord. Welcome our special guest, local guitar celebrity Patrick Feely, as we celebrate the music of Vivaldi, Bach, and more.

The Composers

Antonio Vivaldi inspired many musicians with his innovative sound. Brightening the formal and rhythmic structure of the concerto, Vivaldi looked for harmonic contrasts and original melodies and themes. Many Vivaldi compositions are flamboyantly, almost playfully, exuberant.

Johann Sebastian Bach was deeply influenced by Vivaldi’s concertos and arias. Bach had a musical style that fit in the conventions of his day, the final stage of the baroque style. Bach had a special talent for writing tightly woven music of powerful sonority.
